Social Networking Rumor Backfires on Holland

Oregon’s wide receiver Jamere Holland was dismissed from the team on Sunday by coach Chip Kelly. Holland had violated team rules said Kelly and it is thought that was due to a post he made on Facebook, although Kelly would not comment on this. It was after linebacker, and top team performer, Kristian Kiko Alonso was arrested on Saturday for suspicion of DUI that Holland made an update on his Facebook status. He wrote that Alsonso had been thrown off the team and went on to say what a travesty this was for the Ducks. Later, and shockingly, Holland went on to write in a later post: “I wish...

The Tide Rolls Over Texas

Favored Alabama beat Texas 37-21 last night, easily covering the four point spread. The betting action at LinesMaker had just over 60% of betting volume riding on Alabama. The Crimson Tide takes college football’s national championship title for the first time since 1992 when Gene Stallings coached them to the pinnacle. The Tide have met the Longhorns nine times and this was their first win. Alabama joins the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes and this year’s Boise State team as the only teams to finish a season with a 14-0 record at college football’s highest level. Alabama’s keys to victory...

Texas and Alabama Battle for BCS Title

The NCAA national football championship will be staged at the Rose Bowl tonight, featuring Alabama and Texas. A new BCS Champion will be crowned. Alabama and Texas both have perfect records heading into tonight’s matchup. Bookmakers, however, are counting on Alabama’s strong run defense coupled with Texas’ weaker running game to give the Crimson Tide the edge. LinesMaker has Alabama as 4 point favorites. The Crimson Tide defense is giving up just 79 yards per game on the ground. With the Longhorns being one-dimensional on offense, Alabama’s ninth-ranked pass defense will likely be a...

Texas Tech Over Spartans in Alamo Bowl

The Alamo Bowl turned out to be an entertaining affair as Texas Tech fans were still hurting over coach Mike Leach’s dismissal. The crowd showed their displeasure vocally and visually with T-shirts and signs. The unrest seemed to spur Tech on to a 41 – 31 victory over Michigan State, just covering the 9.5 point spread. It was no real surprise to LinesMaker members who put 62% of their betting action on Texas Tech. The Red Raiders took the lead from the Spartans on backup quarterback Steven Sheffield’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Detron Lewis with 5:03 to play. Sheffield was inserted to...

Vandals Edge Falcons in Humanitarian Bowl

The fans were amazed last night when Max Komar made a sliding 16-yard touchdown catch with just 4 seconds left. Nathan Enderle then passed to Preston Davis for the 2-point conversion, lifting the Vandals to victory in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho. The Falcons had taken a 42-35 lead with 32 seconds left on a 51-yard pass from Sheehan to Barnes. But Idaho answered with a 50-yard heave from Enderle to Davis that got the ball to the Bowling Green 16. After an incompletion with 8 seconds left, Enderle found Komar. The public consensus was fairly even according to LinesMaker members who had...

Arizona’s Shutout by Nebraska in Holiday Bowl

As Arizona’s coach Mike Stoops commented, “this game is humbling in many ways,” as he apologized to fans. Nebraska’s overwhelming 33-0 defeat of Arizona was the first shutout in the 32 year history of the Holiday Bowl. Zac Lee threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Niles Paul in the third quarter which highlighted Nebraska’s dominance. The Huskers delivered on the defensive side of the ball and they earned their first shutout in 46 bowl appearances. The Wildcats didn’t stand a chance in this game. The public consensus was with the Huskers with nearly twice the betting...

Battle of the Forces – Navy Beats Army

Navy, who LinesMaker had as 14.5 point favorites, bagged their eighth straight win of the annual battle when they beat Army 17-3 on Saturday. Despite the victory, the favored Navy squad failed to cover the spread. The Black Knights have now been eliminated from a shot at playing in their first bowl game since 1996. Ricky Dobbs ran for a score to set an NCAA single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 24, and threw for a touchdown to help Navy improve to 54-49-7 overall against Army for its biggest lead in a series that began in 1890. The annual Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy...

ACC Title Goes to Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech, 12th ranked in the nation, won the ACC championship game on Saturday. It was Jonathan Dwyer’s 15-yard touchdown run with 1:20 left that gave Georgia Tech their 39-34 victory over No. 25 Clemson. The Yellow Jackets (11-2) players were in good form throughout the game – Josh Nesbitt threw a 70-yard TD pass to DeMaryius Thomas, and Scott Blair kicked a title game-record four field goals. ACC player of the year C.J. Spiller rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns for Clemson (8-5). Bettors at LinesMaker bet heavy on the game with 73% of the bets on Georgia to cover. Golden Bears Outrun by Huskies

The betting action at LinesMaker leaned towards California with over 60% of the action but Washington upset bettors and fans alike with a 42 – 10 victory over the Golden Bears. California was looking for their third straight victory but were sorely disappointed and Washington avoided it third straight 8 loss season. Jake Locker made what could be his Washington farewell a memorable one, scoring three touchdowns in the first half as well as rushing for two more. The host Huskies closed out their redemptive first season under Steve Sarkisian with a rout of California. VN:F [1.8.1_1037]please wait...Rating:...
